This week Monday moment is a special one. Not only it’s a very beautiful song but the big surprise is the singer who sings it. Catherine St-Onge as better known by her stage name HIMEKA is actually a French Canadian decent.
Here’s a little bio taken from the Wiki.
Born in Quebec, St-Onge was very intrested in theater and music. At the age of 12, St-Onge taught herself English by singing Disney songs. Soon after at 13, she began write her own stories in which Himeka was the main character. Her interest in Japanese culture started at the age of 15 when she saw an episode of the anime series Sailor Moon. In 2008 St-Onge moved to Japan in order to pursue her singing career. She was the winner of the Second Annual Animax Anison Grand Prix, that gathers aspiring singers from all over Japan for the chance to make a professional debut and sing a theme song in an anime television show. Her debut single “Asu e no Kizuna” (明日へのキズナ ?), is the opening theme to the anime adaptation of the Playstation 3 video game, Valkyria Chronicles
It just goes to show, with dedication, hard work, a passion of what you want to achieve and a little bit of luck, you can reach your goals in Japan or anywhere around the world. ^^

According to her wiki article, she’s only moderately proficient in Japanese. Please, please, please tell me she’s singing in broken Japanese, cause that would be hilarious! XD

Her voice is awesome, but I think it’ll take me a while to get used to seeing her in the PV o.O.

HIMEKA’s long journey to be a singer is inspiring indeed. It’s surely impressive especially for a foreigner to stand out and make such a good debut I have to say.
And nice picture there, but with the girls posing around the tank gun is kinda… You know :P lol ^^;
Oh btw HIMEKA has a blog (and it’s on Wordpress), linkie here:

@Matteas
Absolutely true. I wish I can be like her. :(
@Snark
Dude, that’s mean. Have a little heart man. >_<
@zenical
I’m used to seeing things differently and adapting it quickly. When I found out from her single cover, I thought it was a prank but seeing her in her own PV, the joke was on me.
@Q
Thanks for the link buddy. I didn’t know she had a wordpress blog and I left a comment for her. She’s truely inspiring to many ppl and not just for her voice but how she made it to Japan.
It will be an honor to meet her in person. :3

She is awesome. I just recently found about her too when writing my Spring Anime 2009 Preview and cannot be more proud of her as a fellow canadian.
@Snark: Her japanese is actually very good (I think so at least) so she sings very well. Check out her myspace fan site http://www.myspace.com/himekafanspace. Check her voice during the singing competition using below links.
