Nyantype Vol. 1: My Impressions

21 May
2009

On the same week I picked my goodies from Kino, I managed to laid eyes upon a new magazine sitting on the shelf. As I was in a hurry despite being late for work, I never got a chance to take a sneak peek inside. After doing a bit of self research, I found out it was a new anime and game bishōjo character magazine by Kadokawa Shoten which is a spinoff of the original Newtype magazine. Here’s the source for more details.

After going back to Kino last week and see if it was worth a buy or not, I’ve decided to give it a go and grab my 1st edition as I was pleased in what I saw with the vareity of posters bundled inside.

Based on my analysis, the contents inside Nyantype editions are similar to what you will get in Megami editions. It has the usual pin-up posters, anime articles from current and past seasons, merchandise advertising for eg. figures, bags, clocks, pillow covers and sheets etc.  and a special extra provided in the magazine. The only differences I can point out compared to Megami editions is that they have a lot more merchandise advertising but this could just be their normal standards. Other than that, you can easily judge this magazine as a Megami V2 or 2.0.

The real difference here is the different posters you will get. Despite the usual variety similar to Megami, Nyantype showcase of pin-up posters are from past favourites to current airing series but I’m only basing this on first impressions considering they can change that in the next issue.

Here’s the low down for the posters provided.

This edition extra is a Nanoha Weirs Schwarz card. More info can be found here.

Readers who’s interested in any of the posters,  the scan pack can be found here.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with the first edition despite the lack of extras to being with. It will be interesting to see what they can deliver next month because from what I can see, they are now rivals with the current best-selling magazine, Megami. As a loyal Megami buyer, don’t always expect monthly reviews on Nyantype because funding on 2 monthly magazines out of my own pocket is a “no go” zone. As I’m not getting every issue, I will occasionally grab one if it tickles my fancy.

Interested readers in wanting a copy can try their luck at Hobby Search and Akadot Retail before it’s sold out.

I do wonder if they make magazines like this, but for girls?

Also, whilst a pretty cool collection of pictures, I am angered that non of them showed Subaru busting out a Hell and Heaven or Goldion Crusher.

Looks quite nice, but I will stick to my beloved Megami Magazine. This month they have reassured me they provide what I want.

@meronpan
Given the fact it’s another bishōjo magazine, they can pretty much make any character busty. For instance, look at Kanu. DAM!!!! are those for real or not!?
Yup, kissxsis alright, I’m waiting for subs as I already know there are some great incest action. :P

@lightningsabre
Something I had to get when I laid eyes on the poster pack.

@sonic_ver2
I’m been dying for a VC poster. Something I couldn’t pass up. ^^

@kodomut
Welcome kodomut. Hope u stick around. ^^
Yup, they are.

@Snark
If they do, u know I’m not reviewing it as I’m targeting the wrong audience but hey we will see. :P
Yeah, I get ur Subaru drift. lol

@Matteas
With one of the best volumes this month, I doubt they even have a competition up their hands but we will see in the coming months.

@Chappy
haha, nice one. Glad ur happy with it. xD

@zenical
Open it for the nanoha card. xD
oh, don’t be lazy. xD

@Blowfish
It’s the sex appeal matey and I’m liking it. xD
I don’t know, Megami still has the goods in being the most fanservicey mag out there.

@M12
That’s true mate, More goodness for ur eyes. xD
Admit it, u like it. :P

@Otaku Dan
Wow, 2 issues. Ur more hardcore than me. lol

@ELTboy
Yup, eye-catching indeed. xD

@RyoBase
I would suggest to buy a few more before subscribing as u might not like the rest of the editions.

Wonder if the local online store here will carry these….

I actually never get magazines like that due to the high cost compared to the little use I have for them, all that interests me are the posters anyway.
So at most I’ll get an older copy of one when stores sell them with large price cuts. ^^;;

Whoa, and I thought Megami’s pictures can be quite crazy already… So many suggestive pictures with suggestive poses and settings o_O;;

No wonder the magazine claims itself to be “the strongest/most powerful bishoujo magazine has born!” ^^;;;;;

@Smithy
Sadly Kino don’t have price cut’s on magazines despite how old they are. Like when they can’t sell them or have leftovers, I think they send them back.

@Q
“the strongest/most powerful bishoujo magazine has born!”
Hahaha. Well, let see if it’s true by putting where it’s mouth is to the consumers.

@phossil
I’m still gonna stick with Megami as it has been my one and only choice when it comes to bishoujo mags.
