Figma Cursed

24 May
2009

I think there’s someone out there who either 1) jealous of my figma collection because of the variety I have or 2) hates my collection and wishes I break every single one of them. Okay, maybe I’m getting a bit paranoid here about the curse thingy but after 3 figma incidents hence this being my 3rd, I know this is more than just bad luck. T_T

Who’s the victim I dare say, hit the jump for the shocking announcement.

img_0522

It is indeed Itsuki Koizumi. If you knew beforehand or you weren’t shocked it’s Itsuki, then I do apology’s but honesty, any broken figma pieces should be a shock to anyone because the last thing you want is a dilemma to happen when you just want to have fun.

img_0523

As seen from above, the joint piece connecting to his hand piece has snapped off. You might not be able to make it out since the photo is a bit bright but it’s the bottom of the joint piece which snapped off from the hand piece. The only thing I recall doing differently was holding the hand piece only instead of having a firm grip on the hand and the joint piece. Considering this happened last week, that very moment is kinda cloudy now but I could have sworn I had a firm grip on the hand and the joint piece. Maybe I pulled too hard given the fact my fingers are big or the joint had little restraint to begin with and all it needed was a little pressure applied to make it snap.
Like I said earlier, these are all assumptions as what happened at that very moment is under a cloud now. :S

img_0524

No more ball joint as it's already smashed.

If you looked hard enough, then you must be wondering where was the ball joint. Well, that piece snapped off as well because when the hand piece snapped off, the joint piece was still stuck in his arm. Instead of using my fingers to pull it out (it was almost literally impossible to do) I got a peg to try and pull it out but that snapped off as well hence the ball piece was inside his arm hole.
Just like what I did with WF figma Konata incident, I smashed the ball piece inside using my Mum needle scissors.

Very happy indeed. ^^

So there you have it, another successful ending from a bad beginning. His other hand pieces fits in firmly without any trouble but due to the crushing of the ball joint inside, the arm hole got slight wider so it’s a bit loose around the edges moving the hand. Nevertheless, the hand stays in regardless which pose you make of him.

Testing his left hand. Nice and strong. ^^

In conclusion, I hope you learnt something valuable here. Being gentle in taking the joints out is the key in keeping yourself and your figmas happy. There are times where you you will need to be a bit rough and apply force to take the pieces out so my best advice is to hold both ends firmly and at the joint instead of behind.
For more info. in how to take care of you figmas, I recommend checking out DayBreak’s Bell figma care post as he described it in one of the best ways possible and it includes pictures as well.  I should re-read it to refresh my memory. ^_^

This time round, I’m not hoping it will not happen again as I still get the feeling someone out there hates me and my figmas. The real question is, who’s next!?

My past 2 dilemma’s can be found here and here.

    Damn! I’ve been found out!

    Seriously though, sucks that his hand got fucked up, but at least he’s somewhat fixed!

    Oh man, that really sucks. Although I don’t have any figmas (yet) I treat my figures like babies, afraid that similar things might happen.

    I always have tought joints in Figma are unbreakable, but When I started to kind of force some joints (and seen your pics) I think I would need to be a little more carefull.

    I’ve been really careful with the figma hands ever since I broke one of Kagamin’s in January. Luckily it broke when I was pulling it out of the figma hand holder…

    Yeah, that’s right!!! BROKE IN THE FIGMA HAND HOLDER!!! My reaction was WTF because the figma hand was so weak it snapped when I took it out of the hand holder. But it was fixed easily when I just superglued it back on.

    When I first read the top bit of the post, I was worrying “oh no please don’t tell me it’s another casaulty”, and it surely is…

    Judging from the way you’ve described on pulling up the hand piece, it sounds like that you were doing it right, but it’s hard to tell what goes wrong exactly as there can be different causes/factors. Koizumi was one of the earlier (ish) release, which means that the hand parts were not as strong. Max Factory only started using tougher ABS for hand parts when Tsuruya-san came out. Now that they are using the new peg system for future figmas such as Makina means that they are getting quite aware of the weak hand joints and are improving it to increase durability.

    Well, at least you’ve got it fixed, which is definitely good news. Haven’t heard of a figma breakage for a while, but it does get alarming again when Ive read it. I hope there will be no more breakages after this - as it does get disheartening to experience.

    I think figmas are kinda fragile, thus I am slowly “not buying” figmas. LOL

    I understand your pain, I broke my figma fate joints before, and that point of time, Fate was kinda rare >_> Geez. Lol.

    @Chappy
    Ouch. That would shatter my heart for sure. @_@

    @Blowfish
    Just keep in mind not to use excessive force and u should be alright. ^^

    @Snark
    So it’s U who has the voodoo doll. :P
    Yeah, I had to use my magic again. xD

    @GNdynames
    I don’t have any problems with my figures and nendos are they don’t have weak joints.

    @sonic_ver2
    In this case, I see you haven’t given up on them. lol

    @Persocom
    Thanks matey.
    I hope you remain dilemma less free.

    @Wolfheinrich
    Some ppl call me the “Figma doctor”. I can’t complain I’m not. lol

    @phossil
    Don’t apply excessive force. It’s a one way ticket to a dilemma like me. JUST DON’T!!!!!!!!!!

    @T.I.P.
    Geeez that suxs. Never that happened before but dam, what a bummer. T_T
    If u superglued it, doesn’t that mean, that hand becomes unusable anymore despite being in one piece now?

    @Q
    The thing is, I haven’t gotten many of the new figmas with ABS hand parts, Considering I did a major cut back on figmas, I can’t say for sure they made it stronger but I can see some improvements.
    This post isn’t meant to alarm ppl but more as to make them weary and don’t make the mistakes I do.

    @zenical
    NOOOOOOOO, ur gotta keep supporting them. Show your love. xD
    Yeah, I read about it. Sad really. T_T

    @optic the hand is fine actually, and works like new. And being Kagamin’s hand, her sleeve covers up the blemish left behind.
