1/7 Haruhi Suzumiya Beach Side Ver. by Kotobukiya
It’s been quite a while since I did any figure shoot. As figure shoots is not really want I intend to focus on anymore considering there are many otaku bloggers out there who covers this section, it does not mean I’ve abandoned it altogether. From time to time, I get an itch to do one or several many so here’s one of them.

First off, I’m gonna skip the introduction on who she is and where she’s from etc. She’s is without a doubt the most popular character in the anime world and it’s not hard at all to do a google search and find 5,290,000 results which will help you find out about her if you still don’t know who she is.
This time round, I find Kotobukiya did an exception job. I find the design and the scuplt was good and her pose in that ‘mouth-like’ smile feels very warming. She comes with removable yellow top (seen here from my loot post) but I thought it looks ugly on her so I didn’t use it in the shoot. In addition, I thought her base was another let down as well. I realised Kotobukiya was trying something different to impress their buyers but honestly, I think many were disappointed and they preferred the normal sandy type base used in most swimsuit figures than material used to make a corktop. T_T

Here’s a little something to spice up the review, a comparison between Haruhi Suzumiya and Mitsuki Hayase. If I had to choose between both, my vote goes to Mitsuki. Why? Well, sexier bottom piece and bigger jugs. xD

Overall, I thought it was a good shoot despite the lack of a proper setup. Lighting was not as bad but I can see from many people perspective, it needs more improvement. Without a proper setup, I know it’s hard to get a good shoot especially with lighting but in my current situation, it’s not as easy as many people may think. Finding the right resources and making the setup is kinda complicated even though seeing many other people setup and/or tutorials makes it look easy. It seems finding the right resources is the biggest barrier I have in taking the shoot one step up.

This figure of Haruhi, I wanted to buy hier, and then, I became aware. She is good-looking, but finally, I had no favorite. Anyway, thank you for this presentation!

That’s why, in my photos, i used a real sand for the base. Overall, Kotobukiya did a nice job on this figure.
Anyway, i guess there’s too many shadow on her face and body, looks too dark. You need more frontal lighting or something like that.

Great figure, bad base. Sand would have been better for sure. As for your light set up, don’t worry about it, my secret is not having a set up at all XD I do my shoots in various rooms, in various places under a mixture of sunlight and normal lights, basically whatever works. I’ve just come to the realization that I have yet to buy a swimsuit figure of any kind.

I still use it as a display base. The thing is, Mitsuki is on it as well because I’ve got other two-piece figs on her base. I am also able to put 2 nendo petits as well so as u can see, it’s pretty occupied on my little base. lol

More lighting from both side and front is the key I really need to give a good shoot. The lack of these equipment is the biggest drawback.

I’ve been thinking about getting this Haruhi for a while now, especially when she went on sale, but held back because I’m not that big a fan of her’s. But the photos makes me want to get this figure again. You have to give credit to Koto for doing something different in the saturated figure market, even if it was a fail.
I would choose Mitsuki as well, since she looks smexy. ^^
Not sure if it was the figure or the background, but Haruhi looks a little too yellow in the pictures.

Hahahahaha. That tells me their filter is working. Like with their firewall, one of the first things it picks up as an explicit content or not is the title of the page. So in this case, “Sexy” is an instant giveaway. lol

It’s the lighting with the contract of the yellow background. There’s a lot of work ahead of me to give at least a decent shoot.
Despite a failure, I do give them credit for trying something new where not many figure companies are willing to do. Kudo’s for trying Koto. xD

I just opened her right now. Since she only cost me 32 bucks I’m extremely satisfied. I will admit that the base is sort of a let down, but at the same time it makes her stand out from all of the other figures. I don’t know how to remove here yellow top though^^ If you could tell me please^^;
