A New Hobby: Seiyuu & Jpop

It’s growing. Believe me. LOL

If you read my first cdjapan loot in dept, then I’m assuming you already get the picture. If you did and you still don’t get, well this post will clearly explain everything from head to toe.
It gives me great pleasure to say, I’m a fan addict of my new profound hobby, Seiyuu & Jpop.

Nowadays, many people say you can never have enough hobbies. While I believe that is true, it does not really fit into my criteria given the fact I have little to sometimes no time for my current hobbies (anime, gaming, blogging and photo shooting to just to name a few) thanks to work and other daily events happening in my life. It’s true I am able to balance it out and enjoy a couple hours of each but when your really stuck into one thing, times fly like a single click.
So that’s is why I don’t pickup many new hobbies anymore without giving it a hard thought. Other than the financial area, I generally don’t have the time to enjoy more.

So why have I added Seiyuu & Jpop in it? Well, first off a certain friend of mind was able to talk her way through me. She delivered some good points and she was quite convincing as well. Seeing how passionate she was towards her hobby has got me intrigued in searching for the answers myself. The answer lies within her post. Her 3  Loves. Seeing how passionate and dedicated she was to her 3 loves has somewhat made me open my eyes twice as wide. I knew she was a fan of each one but her collection proves she is MORE than just that. The YUI and Nana collection made my mouth drop. LOL

As I don’t wanna got into dept on how her 3 loves started (the answers lie within the post :D), I continued my search into why she is a loyal fan and what makes these 3 performers so great. I already knew YUI was a great artist and her songs are just awesome but Yui Horie and Nana Mizuki? I know they did a lot a of seiyuu work on many anime series and they sang quite a few OP & ED on many of them but really what makes them so great with such a large fan base? I knew Nana is the voice of Fate from the Nanoha series but that couldn’t be the only reason itself.
As I dug deeper and deeper to find the answers like listening to their past albums, feedback from Zen, reading news and reviews, the fanboy inside me started to come out. I didn’t want to admit it at first but I knew the ‘poison’ has already sunk in and it only a matter of time I will be lying to myself I don’t admit it. Considering that’s the last thing I want on my mind, I embraced it. Besides, ‘you only live once’ so enjoy it. xD
As a matter of fact (before I start confusing some people) I’ve always liked seiyuu and jpop but only in the anime and OP & ED area. Considering a majority of them sing the OP and/or ED of the series, I liked them for the anime itself and never really took notice of the talents they had. I guess I never really saw the big picture but I gotta thank Zen for guiding me the way. She made me open my big wide eyes. LOL

So there you have it. The fanboy inside me has awoken and I’m embracing it like I should. My current favourites at the moment are Yui Horie (HOCCHAN), Nana Mizuki, Minori Chihara and HIMEKA. I’m still digging through my entire playlist of all the artists who sang OP & ED of various series to see if I can find the talents I’m after. Listening to a majority of their past albums (if I can find them) can be lengthy but in the end, it can be rewarding at the same time. xD

    Horie Yui is one of the most hardworking seiyuu out there. She took damn long to finally get recognized despite her work though, and she deserves all the respect she can get. I am not interested in any of the other three though, was HIMEKA even a seiyuu in the first place?

    I got a whole list of seiyuu I am interested in lol, but the top ten…it gets a little hazy. Hocchan is inside that top ten, definitely.

    Have you ever given JAM Project a listen? It’s pretty much jpop for giant robots.

    Haven’t seen a figma from you for a while… ^^;

    I don’t listen to seiyuus’ songs often, but I do like keeping track of what roles they do via MyAnimeList. It’s sometimes pretty impressive with the roles they’ve done as they can be very different, and some can be really consistent or really good on grasping the feel of the characters. Afterall voice acting in Japan is a big profession and it requires quite a lot of talent to sound good.

    On the other hand, J-pop is such a huge world. If you count those outside anime industry then even I would feel lost in it. If you are really interested then you can check out the Oricon chart which updates the most popular songs/singles/albums weekly~

    Dude…the poison really sank in deep. I’m really only devoted to Ayako Kawasumi, who doesn’t sing all that well and isn’t as young as the ones featured here (I think). So none of that for me.

    Good thing you’re going down the Jpop/Seiyuu hobby unlike me and the dollfie hobby.

    @zenical
    A whole new world huh!? LOL
    While it’s a whole new experience, I need to get a pay rise to continually support it. lol

    @Panther
    HIMEKA not a seiyuu but a Jpop singer. Well she’s actually a Canadian and she got her first break by winner a singing competition for the OP of Valkyria Chronicles. Quite frankly I love song and I can’t wait for her to release her first album. Atm, she’s working hard to reach that goal.

    @Snark
    Unfortunately not but it’s not gonna hurt to try huh. xD

    @Blowfish
    Yeah, I bet u saw this coming as well. LOL
    I understand many ppl are not into. It’s still really a new area for me.

    @gordon
    “true blue otaku”
    Hmmm… i like that. lol

    @Q
    With their seiyuu roles, I don’t bother keeping track anymore. When I see I series I’ve heard or interested, I usually digest the intro and see who’s in it. In addition, I usually check the OP to see if it sounds cool. Like, 90% of the time, where I like the OP, I will usually give the series a go.
    It’s the connection of the OP I need to feel to see if it’s worth giving a go. The power of the OP can be convincing and that’s one of my big starting points in being interested in a series. lol

    @GNdynames
    It’s so deep, I’m hooked.
    At the moment, I can’t go pass a day without listening to an album.

    @phossil
    It’s not a common road to follow but at least I know this road is an affordable one.

    @Adun
    Well, we both have our own paths. The dollfie part is something I can’t take literally.
