Last weekend, Animania was back in Sydney again at Australian Technology Park for a fun-filled 2 day event. As the last convention in Sydney for the year, it was to be expected of a huge attendance and a huge event to sum up the year.
As usual, considering this was a weekend event, I could only attend on the Saturday because I had work on Sunday. Even though by chance, I didn’t have work on Sunday I would’ve attended the Saturday only as Animania on a whole is not as exciting as it use to be a few years back.
I guess, when you attend these events every year, you kinda lose that hype and excitement overtime when things starts to become repetitive.
One of the winning costumes from the previous WCS rounds
This year compared to the last, I did not pre-register and I did not arrive there early before the doors open. Because I wasn’t bothered to get up early just to wait in line for about an hour before I could walk in, I decided to leave a little bit later.
Arriving there at 10:40am, I still had to wait in line for about 4omins before I could walk in. The pre-registered line was just as long as the door sales line and I was kinda annoyed I still had to wait that long even though I purposely arrive there late. If it wasn’t for Animania Insight where my good mate Adun was a guest panelist for “Just One More! A Collector’s Life”, then I would’ve arrived there just a bit later.
Speaking about the panel event, I thought it was one of the highlights of the day. Even though I was about 10-15mins late, I still find it was fun and informative even though I already knew half the stuff presented. I thought there will be a lot more people attending this panel but considering it took place at 11:15am and while many people are either taking a look at stallholders and doing other things or are still waiting in line, it’s to be expected.
Other winning costumes of the previous WCS rounds across Australia
For the rest of the day, I hung out with Adun and his 2 mates Roobar and Blox. During the day, I was able to meet up with Raymond (M12 friend), Bubby, icie and a few other people Adun knew back in his Uni days and clubs. It’s was great getting to know them and sharing our ‘otaku passion’ together. :D
Dollfie photography Competition. Theme was “Emotion”
Adun entry
The level of cosplayers this year was fantastic. There was more variety compared to last year event and the quality many people offered was impressive. A few years back, you would’ve seen many people dressed up as their favourite characters from mainstream series like Bleach, Naruto and Final Fantasy but nowadays, you don’t see them as much often as before.
With many other popular series from many anime and games, I find Australian cosplayers want to try something different and are up for challenge to successfully look like that character as much as possible.
Because of the variety of so many awesome cosplayers, it was hard for me to cram all the photos into one post so I decided to split it into 2 parts. As I don’t re-size my images anymore, the loading time could would be pretty lengthily if I didn’t.

That’s the wrap of Part 1. Look forward to Part 2 coming very soon with more awesome cosplay photos. There’s a picture of myself with one of my favourite cosplayers if your interested. lol
UPDATE: Part 2 is up. Click here for the continuation.

Kazearashi, here’s a real question: Do they actually love (or even like) Vocakoids, or are just tapping into what’s “hip” at the moment?

Please spare me from the math!!! jk ^^;
I really like the variety of cosplayers, but, as Guy pointed out, it seems like there’s a lot of people going into Miku/vocaloid cosplay.
Really great coverage of the cosplayers, will head over to part 2 now.

haha. I didn’t know they were from Skip Beat until u mentioned it. lol
@Guy
Who looks similar to Saber?
@Kazearashi
There was one last year but this year, there’s 5x that much.
@Rin
I wouldn’t mind attending one of ur cons. over there. They look more epic.
@Guy
I think it’s a popular ‘thing’ going on so many are just into it. Either that or they really love Miku. U will really know when u actually ask them. :)
But the question is, why would they cosplay something they didn’t like?
@Tommy
The spammers are really annoying the ass out of me so I had to take action.
Yup, there is a lot more but really, I’m not disappointed. I love them. ^^

They’d cosplay as something they don’t like, not actively dislike, but something they don’t care for BECAUSE, some cosplayers don’t cosplay for the thing they love, but for the attention it gets them.
So they cosplay what others love.
