Continuing on from Part 1, we get to see many more awesome cosplayers throughout the day. So hit the jump for the final wrap and a picture of myself with one of my favourite cosplayer. :D
Can’t get enough of them :)
Yes, it’s BRS ^^
Eternal Sonata?
WOW, it’s King Bradley!!!
My favourite shot of the day ^^
ZOMG, it’s Alicia :D
Yes, that’s me. lol
…and finally, a picture of myself with my favourite cosplayer of the day. I was surprised, yet shocked to see an Alicia cosplayer that day. WHAT ARE THE ODDS!? I guess it’s fate. :D
If you don’t know already, Alicia is one of main characters from the game and anime series “Valkyria Chronicles”. Best game ever and one of the best series I’m enjoying this year.
This is not the first time I’ve posted myself in my own blog. If you’ve been a frequent reader, you should already know how I look like. To be honest, it’s not often I smile because I always look weird when I do. >_>
Well, that’s the end of the wrap and the end of conventions in Sydney for 2009.
As the 2nd year for the event to be held at Australian Technology Park, I can say it was a huge improvement compared to last year. Other than the impressive quality of cosplayers, I find there was a lot more stallholders, clubs and events during the day. Like in general, there was a lot more things to do and things to see where they took proper usage of the area space of the warehouse while still providing adequate space for people to move around. Compared to last year event, half of the stallholders and clubs decided not to come hence half of the warehouse felt like empty and you can see many activities and events have been allocated a lot more room than necessary to just try and fill in the place. Considering there wasn’t as many people compared to this year, those events started to become less interesting.
Another downside from this year was the entrance fee. If I’m correct, they pre-registration fee for both days was $50 bucks but for only a certain period of time before the 2nd pre-registration comes in. I don’t know what the price was from the 2nd pre-registration but it wasn’t $50. To this point, I’m still unsure why they had 2 pre-registration date but really, it was just unnecessary.
This year entrance fee was $35. I was shocked as I really thought it was $30, just like last year but from what I can see, it’s seems like the price keeps going up year after year after year. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was $40 next year. :S
I’m not gonna deliberate why the price keeps going up but I get the feeling, to continuing enjoying these events in the future it’s gonna get more and more expensive. T_T
Well, this sums it up for another year. Looking back, I don’t have a favourite convention but I enjoyed each and everyone of them. The level of cosplayers this year has certainly reach it’s high point and I hope it will continue in 2010. Maybe the quality of cosplayers in 2010 will be even better. ^^

That Rider cosplay looks nice! Cool images, seems like a fun con. ^^
Over here the annual convention I attend has increased in price each year for these past few years as well, though not as extreme as with with 5$ jumps. Though 35$ is a lot for one day…
At that rate a 2 day con visit will cost you roughly what a figure costs so that’s a sizable portion of your onsite spending budget.

Nice coverage. We had our Anime Evolution convention in July this year in Vancouver as well. It was a lot of fun, too.

Omigosh~! BRS~! So cute!! <3 And Miku is still around, hope to see her every year, lol~
I've that old dude around before, pretty sure he's worn the same costume, I've also seen an older guy dressed up in a retro mecha series uniform, forgot what series ^^;
Don't worry about smiling, you look fine! :3
Wish I could've gone just to hang out with you guys, but the entry costs were a little too much for me at the time, will definitely save up some money just to pay for the entries for next year's con season xD;;

Somehow I knew that you were going to post a picture of you and Alicia cosplayer. AND I WAS RIGHT. HOHOHO. XD.

Pretty good cosplays.
Nice photos too!!!
For me, every year Anime North here in Canada always increase their prices by $5CAD. I don’t mind but still…I have to pay another $5. Which means $5 less on goods. I think this year I had to pay around $55CAD for a 3 day pass.
Conventions over the years improve every year I think.

35AUD for entrance fee? Wow it’s so much of a contrast to Hong Kong, where it’s just 20HKD for the ani-com convention (~3AUD). We start complaining when it starts going up to 30HKD (~4.5AUD) already!

Big conventions around here are rather pricey for an entrance fee. For the two conventions I went to I paid 40 and 55 respectively.

I don’t have any beef with entrance fees as long as they provide a quality event to back up the price. I get pissed when it doesn’t meet expectations.
Lovely cosplayers. But that Mikuru bunny (no offense) should’ve picked another Mikuru attire. I really love that BRS cosplay, maybe I’ll see on in a local convention next year. ^^

Wow amazing cosplayers, these events just seem to get better and better every year. Guess a lot of noobs are converting to anime and otaku stuff^^ Japan needs to launch a missile with otaku and anime related stuff towards the US because their is NOTHING HERE!^^ Glad you had an awesome time though, and awesome coverage as always :D

@Guy
It’s pretty cool to see older ppl cosplaying. It makes them feel young again. xD
@Smithy
With most price increases, there’s usually a justification behind it. Okay, when they first moved to ATP, $30 was kinda hefty but still reasonable. Heck, the last place it was held at, it was cheaper than here. Now with the increase of $5 and seeing not any major changes is really something I’m annoyed about. Off course, as I’m not the ppl running these events, I’m sure they have many reasons to justify it.
@Kam
Welcome Kam. I hope u enjoy what ur reading so far. ^^
Ah nice. I wouldn’t mind going there someday.
@Ace
I wished there was more Alicia cosplayers but still I’m very happy there was even one. ^^
@Pudding
If she was in a crowd, I would’ve missed her.
@Kazearashi
It’s not officially out via online stores. My friend brought it with him on that day. He was able to secure one from Wonfes.
@Koshiko
I hope u could come next year. :3
Yup, the FMA guy was at SMASH! if you remember. I wasn’t able to get a good picture of him at the time but I’m happy he came back. ^^
I’m not sure if ppl noticed he was cosplaying as King Bradley?
@zenical
Looks like ur predictions came true even though I tried to hide it. :(
Well, if that case, I wouldn’t need to think twice about paying the tickets for AFA. xD
@Rin
$55CAD for 3 days is reasonable but $50AUD for 2 days is kinda not.
A few years back, it was a 3 day event and it cost me $50AUD for the weekend pass. God I miss those days.
I wouldn’t mind attending Anime North one day.
@Adun
LOL. I didn’t hesitate one bit. Literally the fanboy inside me just took over. xD
@Gordanham
Me either.
@Q
That’s considered really cheap already but I’m not surprised. lol
@GNdynames
I don’t mind paying a higher price for something new or something more eventful but what I saw was the same thing.
@Tommy
I agree but what I’ve saw didn’t meet my expectations. There wasn’t anything really special but I guess the price makes it up for the awesome quality of cosplayers this year. Still, that doesn’t really justify the price as it’s optional for ppl to cosplay or not.
@Roy
LOL. I’m not sure what your point is but it’s kinda humorous. lol
I wouldn’t call them noobs if u get what I mean.
@Blowfish
I didn’t ask and I wasn’t going to. lol
