Sydney Animania 09: Loot

With most conventions you attend to, there may always be some form of loot you bring home whether it’s big or small so here is my small loot from the day.
- Valkyria Chronicles fanart piece: $5
- Vocaloid lamented fanart pieces: 2 for $8
- KOTOKO: Hane album: $20
As the last convention of the year, I didn’t felt the urge to spend a lot. Having said that, there wasn’t anything in particular that was calling out to me in wanting to be bought. Off course, there was a few eye-catching items like for example a Fate/Stay Night fanbook and another similar Fate/Stay Night artbook with NSFW illustrations but your looking at a price of $140 on that one. If my memory serves me right, the guy told me it was a Japan exclusive so that could justify the price a bit. I knew he wasn’t lying because it was nothing I’ve seen before and the artbook was textbook thick.
Moving along, as you can see, I picked up KOTOKO first album Hane. For $20 bucks, I consider it a bargain because if I order it from cdjapan, I would have to pay almost twice that much.
Last but not least, some artworks in supporting the clubs. I liked the Miku fanart a lot as she looks very techno and as usual, most clubs had these deals where the more you buy the more you save so I grabbed the Rin and Len one for an extra $2 bucks.
As for the Valkyria Chronicles fanart, I just thought it looks pretty and considering I’m a VC fanboy, it was an instant GET!!
Even though I know she doesn’t look like Alicia, I still reckon she looks pretty. It’s a pretty artwork if you ask me. :)
So the total damage works out to….. well, I will let you do the math. xD

Ah, getting cool looking fanart made locally… the VC is nice, the use of the paints, and that Miku drawing is hawt. Really like the drop effect around her hip area.
Did you flip through the NSFW F/S N book? Textbook thick is mighty thick, I trust it wasn’t in colour? If so, that’d be a great deal, supposing the art quality is good.

We have a local anime con that usually has good mix of artists. Since I collect original artwork, I take a sketch book with me for them to draw in. A lot of them get a shock that I want a sketch from them as I also post it on my website.
I try to get a couple CD’s myself as well because it is a bit cheaper. I take the family as well and my wife is usually trying to find anything Fruits Basket related. My son usually is happy with a couple Gundam Gashapon’s.

Loots never need to be expensive, so it’s a nice change to see something more affordable here~ ^^

well if the artbook is textbook thick it’d actually be worth it, since none of my new textbooks costed anything less than 160 CAD.
Just wondering, how big were the art pieces?

Miku cosplaying as Alicia??? I WANT!! =D I remember I went crazy when I first found out I had unlocked Alicia’s costume in the Project Diva game =P

I didn’t buy any loot during my last two (first two) anime conventions. Their selection was really disappointing. I somewhat felt the urge to buy something just to satisfy the need to buy something. That being said, you didn’t really buy a lot this time around. But congrats on buying the KOTOKO CD.

Tommy, you get over the urge, believe me, as someone who went to (not anime, either RPG or sci-fi/fantasy) cons since the third grade, and is close to 24 years old now.
The thing is, I know 90% of the sellers, and visit their shops every so often, so I don’t really see new stuff on sale at conventions, but rather talk to the retailers, many of whom I’m friends with.
Then again, that was the most awe-inspiring thing about going to Gen Con, a dealers’ hall big enough to host most local conventions, and packed to the gills with stuff.
I was limited with space though, as I took my loot with me to NYC afterwards. Could’ve had a friend ship them to me after the con, but that’s not as fun, heh.
