Came Back Home to a Problem

It’s been under 48hrs since I came back from Singapore and quite honesty, it feels good to be back. Nothing beats coming back home since after all, Australia is my home.

While I can’t wait to get back home and get some well needed sleep since I literally lost a whole night thanks to the time difference, a technical problem was waiting for me, from my return.

I was advised my computer wouldn’t turn on anymore hence it’s dead. Apparently it died on the night I flew out and while I do appreciate my bro and sis not telling me while I was in Singapore since they didn’t wanted me to worry about my dead pc, the last thing I didn’t wanted to come home to was to fix a computer problem when I wasn’t the last one who touched it. -_-

It died shortly after I took this shot. -_-

After much diagnostics and another restless night, it has come to the conclusion the PSU is dead or dying should I say since the computer will still turn on from time to time but not for long. So at this point, I began my research in looking for a new PSU and a affordable one as well since I don’t won’t to widen the hole in my wallet.

After much research, I ran out today to pickup the Antec TP 550W from MSY for AUD$136. It’s still considered a bit pricey but many of ones I wanted has already been discontinued in the market and anything over the AUD$160 mark is a no go for me. 550W is considered a good choice for a low-end system like mind since I don’t game on my pc.  I do all of my gaming on the PS3 .  :)
As my pc is close to reaching that 4 year mark, it get’s laggy overtime but a reboot always solves the issue. I’m just hoping to squeeze another 3 years from this baby before I throw the whole thing out. lol

Well, that’s it for now. Once again, it’s feels good to be back. I’m still suffering from jet lag so please bare with me.
Besides that, I’ve got a lot of anime and gaming to catch up before I head back to work next Monday. T_T

    Huh? Isn’t the time difference between Singapore and Australia only 3 hours?

    But yeah, must have been a bitch to come back to a dead PSU -_-

    I know how it sucks to come back to a dead computer. I went through it this August. Unlike you, I was concerned about it all the vacations, as it died the day I was leaving. It turned out to be a rare type of OS crash, probably caused by some virus.

    Anyways, I hope it was “just” dead PSU and you’ve got over it.

    I had similar issues on my old system. I added so much stuff into it that the 350w couldn’t do the job anymore. I upgraded to a 500w and she hummed like a charm.

    I had to retire her a couple years ago, but learned my lesson. My current rig has a 1.2kw power supply so no more outages.

    Wow…4 years old…
    I usually change my PC within 2 to 3 years…which reminds me it’s almost time to change mine…
    I say having the same PC for longer than 4 years is pushing it, unless you plan on upgrading it with newer parts.

    Do you think your bro/sis had anything to do with your PC being dead? I know how a broken PC can be problematic sometimes. I hope your info to be intact.

    Welcome back. Sorry to hear that you come back home with a dead computer. At least you’ve bought a replacement PSU and got it working again (bit pricey though).

    I only use laptops all these years since I move about quite often, and to be honest I really don’t know much about computers, especially desktops…

    That sucks, the PSU also blew out on my parents’ desktop somewhat recently as well and it took the motherboard along with it.

    Trying to get 7 years out of your computer? Damn…

    Yeah dying PC hardware is always something that happens to all of us. Also what kind of case is that? Always wanted one of those cases where the hdd is pointing sideways.

    “Believe it”? What kind of slogan is “Belive it?”

    Anyway, my desktop back at home is approaching its 5th year mark. Still quite usable since the most intense job it handles these days is probably Diablo 2 (but usually it’s MS Word, Firefox or MSN). It felt really weird when someone from my anime club came to ask me for advice on purchasing a laptop, and I had to direct her to someone else.

    My laptop is about one and a half years old now, and honestly nothing has ever happened since I don’t use it for much (with the possible exception of its harddrive being overfilled by anime, movies and games that I don’t play). The specs were all right at the time, but it’s overkill for me since I don’t need it for anything other than wordprocessing and surfing the web. I’m thinking of getting a tablet laptop after I graduate, at least I’d be able to bring it around.

    How annoying~ at least you didn’t have to buy a completely new computer lol.

    I have to keep mine at about mid-end since i do graphics sometimes, photoshop and illustrator can be a hog on resources… not to mention I like to multi task sometimes so I have a whole bunch of programs open lol

    @Blowfish
    I’ve upgraded all the parts I wanted to ensure it runs efficiently for a couple more years. In case the motherboard dies, I can use those parts and build another system if needed. Just like u, I do all of my gaming on the console.

    @Snark
    I was pissed because I was hungry and tired. -_-
    When though it’s a 3 difference, I couldn’t sleep on the plane.

    @Matteas
    Yeah, I read about ur incident. It was a real shame and I will be worried about it if I found out on the day it died before I left.
    After a week now, it’s back to normal so it was only the PSU, thankfully.

    @bluedrakon
    Wow, 1.2kw. I’m assuming ur rig is a beast. lol
    I’m hoping my rig will give me at least 3 more years of productivity before I retire it.

    @Rin
    I’ve added and extra gig of RAM 2 years ago to improve it’s performance. When I bought it 4 years ago, I went with dual-core which was pricey back then as I hope it will pay off in the long term without the need to upgrade in 2 to 3 years time. So far it’s paying off and since I don’t game on my rig, I reckon I can push it for a few more years.

    @phossil
    I interrogated my sis as she was the last one who touched it but I assure u she remains innocent even though she might have ‘touched’ something. I will never find out as I wasn’t here when it happen.

    @Q
    If I went for a generic brand, it would’ve been even cheaper but it’s not worth the risk if it dies in less than a years time.
    I find desktops are a lot more complicated than laptops. If a laptop dies, usually u will need to take it in for repairs and either the part will be replaced or u get a new one.

    @Wolfheinrich
    It was awesome. Will write up my report soon.

    @Reltair
    Dam, that suxs. :(
    I know I’m pushing it but it’s worth a shot. ^^

    @Adun
    It’s the Antec Sonata II. It’s fairly old now and nowadays, all new cases have hdd slots pointing sideways. It’s a standard format now.

    @GNdynames
    I’m still working what’s the slogan ur talking about. lol
    Unless it’s a gaming laptop, laptop just doesn’t run as efficient compared to desktop when it comes to gaming. As the game specs increases, u will likely need to upgrade the graphics cards and it’s not cheap when doing it on laptops.
    Since ur laptop is 1.5 yrs old, it still runs pretty efficient since ur not doing anything that overkills it. As long as u can run the essential programs u need without overkilling it, it’s still good. ^^d

    @Koshiko
    Thank god I don’t. That’s the last thing I want, spending a grand on a new one. >_>
