Yeah, I read about ur incident. It was a real shame and I will be worried about it if I found out on the day it died before I left.
After a week now, it’s back to normal so it was only the PSU, thankfully.

I’ve added and extra gig of RAM 2 years ago to improve it’s performance. When I bought it 4 years ago, I went with dual-core which was pricey back then as I hope it will pay off in the long term without the need to upgrade in 2 to 3 years time. So far it’s paying off and since I don’t game on my rig, I reckon I can push it for a few more years.

I interrogated my sis as she was the last one who touched it but I assure u she remains innocent even though she might have ‘touched’ something. I will never find out as I wasn’t here when it happen.

If I went for a generic brand, it would’ve been even cheaper but it’s not worth the risk if it dies in less than a years time.
I find desktops are a lot more complicated than laptops. If a laptop dies, usually u will need to take it in for repairs and either the part will be replaced or u get a new one.

It’s the Antec Sonata II. It’s fairly old now and nowadays, all new cases have hdd slots pointing sideways. It’s a standard format now.

Unless it’s a gaming laptop, laptop just doesn’t run as efficient compared to desktop when it comes to gaming. As the game specs increases, u will likely need to upgrade the graphics cards and it’s not cheap when doing it on laptops.
Since ur laptop is 1.5 yrs old, it still runs pretty efficient since ur not doing anything that overkills it. As long as u can run the essential programs u need without overkilling it, it’s still good. ^^d

I have to keep mine at about mid-end since i do graphics sometimes, photoshop and illustrator can be a hog on resources… not to mention I like to multi task sometimes so I have a whole bunch of programs open lol

Anyway, my desktop back at home is approaching its 5th year mark. Still quite usable since the most intense job it handles these days is probably Diablo 2 (but usually it’s MS Word, Firefox or MSN). It felt really weird when someone from my anime club came to ask me for advice on purchasing a laptop, and I had to direct her to someone else.

My laptop is about one and a half years old now, and honestly nothing has ever happened since I don’t use it for much (with the possible exception of its harddrive being overfilled by anime, movies and games that I don’t play). The specs were all right at the time, but it’s overkill for me since I don’t need it for anything other than wordprocessing and surfing the web. I’m thinking of getting a tablet laptop after I graduate, at least I’d be able to bring it around.

Trying to get 7 years out of your computer? Damn…
